Spring Awakening is a re-imagination of an 1891 Frank Wedekind play about teenage angst, life and love. Featuring original songs by Duncan Sheik, it opened on Broadway in 2006 to rave reviews and went on to capture the 2007 Tony Award for Best Musical.
