The round tower is known as the Hölderlinturm (Hölderlin tower), where the 19th-century poet Friedrich Hölderlin spent his final years, plagued by mental ill-health. It's right on the river front, with a beautiful view over the Neckar overhung with weeping willows, and seems as fitting a place as any for a tragic artist to wrestle with his demons.
